A retired Bellefontaine City Schools’ teacher and coach earned a prestigious honor on Sunday.

Mike Vetorino was presented the Southwest District Athletic Board Friend of Athletics Award.

Vetorino and 13 other recipients were recognized during a Division I district final boys basketball game at the Xavier University Cintas Center.

Mike was spotlighted for his years of coaching and running scoreboards at BHS.

He operated the football and boys basketball scoreboards for 37 years.

Vetorino also coached middle school boys basketball for 17 years, softball and golf for 6 years, and JV girls basketball for 1 year.

Coach V was nominated by Bellefontaine Athletic Director Matt Comstock.

Comstock said, “Coach Vetorino has had a huge impact on thousands of students’ lives in our community. Whether teaching business or coaching, he loved working with students and helping them grow. After retirement, his commitment to coaching our lower levels and working our scoreboards was a huge and consistent help to the athletic department.”

Vetorino taught at BHS for 28 years. He retired in 2012.
